It's a Beautiful Fall Day
Happy November 2! Here we are in lovely Southeastern New England enjoying some great weather. I mean really, it's 62 degrees right now, and I was able to have some windows open to let some fresh air in. The forecast for the rest of the week is for some sun, some clouds, and temperatures up around 70 on Friday. I love it! I'll take the warmer days for as long as I can get them because before we know it, it will be cold, cold, cold and probably snowy. Frankly I can do without that. I thought maybe I should take advantage of whatever nice days we have left and get outside a little more so I decided to put the 30 writing challenge on hold for a bit. It was also recently brought to my attention that I tend to take on too many projects and that I should pick the ones that are most important to me right now and focus on those. At first I made light of it, I like to be busy and there are many, many things I find interesting that I want to learn and do. But, upon reflection I realized that this person was telling me something important and what they were saying was true. The problem with trying to squeeze too many activities and hobbies in is that you don't spend enough time on any one thing. Then you're just a dabbler. I don't want to just dabble. So, that said, there are a couple of things that are very important to me that I will be focusing on so that I can get better at them. As I go along, I plan to write a bit about them here. This will likely turn into more of a journal for myself which is something I think I need to do so I can keep track of what I'm doing and where I'm going. So, 30 day writing challenge is slated for a later date.
I got a call from an ex boyfriend last week. He said he just wanted to catch up and see how I was doing. He kept telling me how much he had changed over the last couple of years but as he went on, it was clear to me that he had not changed at all. He continued to talk about all the same things as before all the while continuing to tell me how much he's changed. It wasn't just what he spoke about but his attitude about people, places, his life...all the same...but wait, "I've really changed a lot." Self reflection can be a hard thing, maybe he has been trying to convince himself that he changed. I don't know but I sure wasn't convinced. It was just sort of a weird call out of the blue.
On a more fun note, two friends and myself will be starting to work together to create a sound healing/meditation program. We all have crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, drums, rattles, didgeridoos, etc. Two of us already teach classes at a local wellness shop and we all have good contacts so I'm hoping that maybe by the Spring we'll have something good going on. We three are all the type to have a number of projects and interests going on but I feel like this has become something that we are going to really focus on. I hope so anyway because it's something that I have been trying to get started for quite sometime now.
Well, the night shift calls and it's time for me to get ready for work. Until next time...

Writing a new Blog...again
Here's what happened: I got inspired by a post I saw on The Writer's Circle Facebook page. It was a 30 day writing challenge and I thought, 'Hmm, why not?' You see, I used to write fairly frequently but after a blog failure, a computer meltdown, and other activities keeping me busy, writing sort of took a back seat. I do have another blog on another site but I'm not crazy about the user interface. So it just sort of sits there...collecting cyber dust.
What was it about this 30 day challenge that inspired me? I'm not sure exactly. I have friend who is a pretty prolific writer. He posted something the other day that I just really enjoyed reading because it was sort of a free flowing piece where he was challenging himself to complete a certain word count. It got me thinking about writing...again. He's also doing the NaNoWriMo challenge which sounds pretty cool....and at the same time daunting. I mean seriously, writing a novel in a month? Ok, so it only works out to 1,667 words per day, but you also have to have an idea for a novel, something germinating in your head to begin with. At the moment, I don't have that...ok, that's not entirely true, I have a multitude of ideas. Too many ideas in fact. I just don't have one that's particularly well thought out yet. Well, rather than set myself up for a stressful endeavor I thought I'd begin with something a little simpler, you know, just to sort of get into the habit of daily writing. Something fun because let's face it, if it isn't fun, why do it? All I have to do is write something every day for 30 days and see what happens. No minimum word count. Just use the writing prompts each day and create something. I can do that! Right? I guess we'll see.
I found this list on Tumblr and thought it might work, although I may search around a bit more and make a mish-mash of a list. There were a few prompts on the Writer's Circle post that I liked and a few that I didn't on the Tumblr list so I'm thinking of swapping them around. I plan to begin the challenge on November 1st because, well, there's 30 days in November. One month of daily writing. We'll see how this goes. I have several days to think on it. In the mean time, I plan to use this as a journal sort of thing. Share what's going on, adventures with friends, random thoughts or observations, that sort of thing. To be honest, I haven't really decided whether or not to share this officially with friends and family. For now, I think it'll just be for me...and anyone else who might stumble across it on the interwebs. So, as of now unknown friend, thank you for reading and I hope you are having a beautiful moment.
